A Special Message from Context Is Everywhere
Hello all. In lieu of sharing a story I wrote about how Mark Zuckerberg is fully uncircumcised in the Metaverse and nobody knows it but him and the team of programmers and lobbyists he employs to make that possible, I have decided to share some content that has helped me make a modicum of sense of the war currently being fought between Israel and Hamas.
If you find this helpful, please let me know and I can continue to share.
If I do not hear from you, I will condemn you and your silence publicly until you are forced to share your feedback against your will and to the detriment of our relationship going forward. Don’t worry, you’ll thank me for it when this is all over!
Since you asked, my thoughts on how to engage in social media were summarized in my Instagram post earlier this week. I think it’s crucial to maintain the moral certainty and outrage I felt when I first saw the images of the attacks of October 7th. To that extent, I’m trying my hardest to limit my consumption of opinion-news that draws me away from that and the suggestions below reflect that.
If you’re wondering why I haven’t made a statement until now, it’s simply because nobody has asked me to.
🎙️ Yuval Noah Harari has emerged as a unique voice who can at once articulate the impossibility of Israel doing nothing in response to Hamas, while maintaining awareness of how the Western world perceives it. He does his best to express the extent of the tragedy to people who clearly do not understand what it has meant to the Jewish people, and at the same time is sensitive to the loss of life. I've been finding him to be a great advocate.
🎙️ If you’re interested in some of the geo-political context for the war, this is a great listen. It does NOT answer the question of whether or not Scott Galloway is Jewish. Even if he isn’t, I think he is.
🎙️ Marshall Kosloff is like the guy in the back of shul who talks you off the ledge because he knows how things really work. He talks with Sagaar– host of Breaking Points– and answers some listener questions about the war. They both seem like mentsches, regardless of whether I agree with everything they say. The last segment in particular, where Marshall answers some q’s on his own, I found especially interesting.
🚨TRIGGER WARNING: The suggestions below are explicitly religious in content. They have been a source of optimism for me during a time where I have not been able to find it anywhere else. The speakers are also brutal in their honesty about how angry, bitter, vengeful, and afraid they are.
There are some opinions here that may not jive with your personal worldview, but they remain interesting if only as a window into how the orthodox Jews–a huge population in Israel– are perceiving the Messianic element of current events.
Rest assured, I’m not even sharing the really spicy stuff. DM me for that.
