The Price of Thinking About Money

Some people, all they think about is money. Not me. I'm an air-conditioning man, through and through.

When time-travel hit the consumer market, first thing most people did was figure out a way to skim some off the top for themselves. All I cared about was what it meant for conditioning air. So when I finally wrapped my head around how it worked, I got so excited about the possibilities I could barely think of anything else.

It was tough finding a time-travel specialist to do the engineering. They all wanted big projects. Big money. Big upside. Everything big. Not me. I wanted to build the smallest time travel contraption possible.

The concept is simple. You stick an A/C in your window, but instead of pulling in hot summer air and converting it to colder air, Lebowitz units take in air from 6-months prior. You follow? Now you’re sucking December air into an August apartment. No conversion necessary. Uses half the energy and doesn't make a peep.

Am I a genius? Nah. The true brilliance was making sure the machine would break down every two or three years. The real money is in repairs and service.

📺 The last job Michael K. Williams took before he died (RIP) was hosting a show for Vice that just makes you go, can they actually show this?!? It's a reminder of how groundbreaking and thrilling Vice used to be. In Black Market, Michael K. explores different scams and the people who populate them. It's 30-mins, full eps on YouTube, and if you live anywhere near Newark you need to be keeping your car in a garage.

🎙️For content creators and NFT flippers, it's hip to drop terms like "creator economy" and "future of work" while arguing with people who love them and just want them to be happy. But Li Jin has been thinking about what that means since way before apes were bored or joined clubs. It's what allows her to poke holes in some of the current hype and make room for sophisticated, balanced, and surprising takes on what the future of work and the creator economy will look like. (Disclaimer: She's an angel investor, former a16z employee, and parties in Europe with tech execs, so she's also likely working for an intelligence agency). I started with the episode below. Enjoy!
