Antiques Roadshow: Celeb Edition

Antiques Roadshow had a problem. They were the #1 rated show from the 11pm-3am slot, and they crushed the 50-65 female demo that PBS has traditionally owned. They weren't, however, trending in the right direction. And trends are all these assholes care about. So, they called me, the guy responsible for the idea that saved their collective asses: Celebrity Antiques Roadshow.

Viewers just didn't want to hear from experts any longer. They wanted to hear what the stars have to say about the value of our nation's antiques. And why shouldn't they? It takes a lot of hard work to become a successful actor or actress. It requires good taste, too. They deserve to have a say in how much your Civil War era porcelain figurine is worth. Or, in the case of the poor gentleman who brought his great-great-grandfather's chair to Jessica Chastain, whether your family heirlooms are "horseshit" and "gross."

I never expected the ten-episode run to upend the entire collectibles market. Today, if you don't have a celebrity appraisal nobody will touch your stuff. It doesn't matter if President Roosevelt's pen was authenticated by the Roosevelt family itself. You'll need a former SNL castmember– or a celebrity of equal or greater footing– to confirm.

Sure, collectibles freaks give me shit for what we did. It's difficult for me to get through a meal in public anywhere in upstate New York. But I don't think the legacy I leave behind matters much, as long as I leave one. Whether it has any value really isn't up to me. It's up to Pete Davidson now.

🎥 Tim Dillon's "The Big Lie." Tim Dillon is a standup comedian, but I think he'll ultimately be remembered as one of the great "talkers" of our generation. Pound-for-pound, there's nobody I rather listen to sit behind a podcast mic and talk for 2-hours. He recently got the whiteboard treatment for one of his all-time great rants. (If you like it, reply to this email and I'll send some of my favorite podcast eps).

📺 Nathan Fielder has a new show. It has recently come to my attention that not everyone knows who Nathan Fielder is, which is more upsetting to me than climate change. He has a new show on HBO called "The Rehearsal," which is a brilliant distillation of everything that makes him one of the greats. The first ten minutes of the first episode are just *chef's kiss.* HBO Max, 1-hr, comedy/undefinable.
